http://techcrunch.com/2014/03/24/apples-iphone-5c-sales-story-is-a-complex-one/

The good news for Apple is that a recent study by Umeng found that 8 out of 10 high-end smartphones in China, defined as those costing $500 or more, were in fact iPhones of one sort or another, so Apple is controlling the high end of the Chinese market just as it has controlled the high end of the U.S. market.
According to comScore, for the period ending January, 2014, the latest figures available, Apple was at the top of the U.S. subscriber heap with a 41.6 percent market share.
We know the iPhone is selling well, but we are left to parse various sources to figure out how it breaks down.
According to the data from Umeng, iPhone 5c sales in China at least have been dismal. According to a chart posted on Andreessen Horowitz analyst Benedict Evan’s blog, iPhone 5c sales in China are in the 2 percent range compared to the 5s, which is at around 12 percent and the iPhone 5, which is around 15 percent. The odd part of this equation of course, is that the 5c is basically the 5 in a colorful plastic shell, but it’s that design that people appear to be rejecting.colored plastic is not what they are looking for in a smartphone. Part of the problem is that even though the phones have been highly discounted by carriers, at least here in the U.S., it’s not clear the discounts are driving sales. Consider that Walmart was offering the 5c for just $45 with a two-year contract last fall, and that was after Best Buy had dropped the price to $50 with a two-year contract.
Last week, Apple, in what would seem to be a tacit admission that sales weren’t going as well as they’d hoped, introduced an even cheaper version of the 5c with 8GB of storage for £429 in England without a discount. That’s $729 U.S. for what amounts to last year’s iPhone in a colorful plastic case with a small onboard hard drive. No wonder they aren’t flying off the shelves.
Benjamin Robbins, principal at Seattle-based mobile consulting firm Palador, told me that maybe the 5c is doing poorly across markets because people buy Apple for the prestige factor, and nobody really wants to get a cheaper one. He said this has always been true of Apple because cheap simply isn’t in its DNA, no matter what the pundits might suggest.
“Apple’s brand always has been exclusive in nature,” Robbins told me. “Apple’s marketing team excels at portraying an elite experience and lifestyle that one would have through ownership of their products. Apple can’t have it both ways. It can’t be the penultimate tech product to own and the low-budget leader at the same time. Just as Android struggles to do cool, Apple struggles to do cheap.”

The Financial Post reports Hip Hop band Aint No Love became the world’s first act to offer their album for sale using a Bitcoin feature on FrostWire. The Tears of Joy EP can be purchased via iTunes, or listeners can donate Bitcoin money to download the album from the file-sharing website.
“Using Bitcoin has definitely widened our reach to people who don’t necessarily listen to our type of music, but like that we get down with Bitcoin, and started listening to our music,” said lead singer Saidah Conrad. “Which is a cool thing in itself.”
Tears of Joy can also be purchased using Litecoin, Dogecoin, and PayPal. Those formats, along with Bitcoin, allow proceeds to go directly to the artist.

This is all people want to know these days! Forget that Malaysian Flight! WILL DRAKE RESPOND!?
The answer? No.
I am hearing that Drake has no ambitions to be embroiled in a beef with the man that almost ended Nas. In fact, I heard its even lighter fare than that. Drake wasn’t all that impressed. The internet is going nuts over it and Jay has single-handedly helped get Jay-E back into the game. That first single he dropped had a pretty big echo.
But, Drake ain’t really the beefing type even though at one point on the come up, he was. Drake is more of a sublime dude. But, no really beef with Common or Kendrick – when the stakes were high – what makes us thing he’d come back on Jay?
These guys are friends anyway!!!

http://sploid.gizmodo.com/if-apple-makes-this-apple-tv-they-will-win-the-living-1546416165

This. This is what Apple needs to beat everyone: A $99 Apple TV with the graphic oomph of an iPhone 5S, plus a new larger remote that doubles as a full gamepad and a motion joystick—like the Nintendo Wiimote. If this concept becomes a reality, Cupertino really can win the living room.
These are the equivalent of the dumbphones of yore—controlled by massive evil companies who employ blind orcs and goblins as their product designers, marketers, and tech people. Their interface and hardware design have the appeal of a two girls one cup party inside a goatse. We all wish they die soon–but realistically they are going to stick around for a longer time. Despite the options listed below, full a la carte TV will take a while to come (in part thanks to the sabotage work by cable companies,Apple TV, Chromecast, and Roku. These are the guys who are taking over from the bottom. The guys that everyone fears. Easy to set up, easy to use, easy to enjoy, and so inexpensive.
Of those three, the Apple TV and the Chromecast are better positioned to become the winners. Roku is a great little device. It's agnostic, so you aren't tied to the Apple or Google ecosystems, but 1) they don't have the pockets to win this long-term war and 2) it's not as flexible as the other two. Roku may have 5000 channels now, but nobody is going to develop for them and they can't leverage an existing mobile platform like Apple and Google. To win this war, you need apps.
